What's Right with Spackenkill!

September 21, 2018

A tradition of excellence with a vision for tomorrow

Dear Spackenkill Community,

We made the decision a year ago to move to digital distribution of flyers. There are several reasons for this shifttime and resources to distribute, efficiency, and a desire to reduce the amount of wasted paper.  Each day I receive quite a bit of spam in my email so it’s easy to ignore our newsletter. I hope that you review the title of each attachment to determine its usefulness to your family.

This has been a busy week for me and as a result I did not have the opportunity to visit the mobile art demonstrations at the high school as described below. But I want to add a shout-out to Mr. Romani for setting this up. If not for his persistence, this experience would not have been afforded to our students. Thank you.

My best,
Mark Villanti

Kudos to National Merit Semi-Finalists

..national merit semfinalists

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of 16,000 high school seniors who qualified as semi-finalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by their outstanding performance on the PSAT/NMSQT.  We are proud to announce that Mia Eng-Kohn, Sneha Kamada, Rachel Li and Zoe Whalen (shown left to right with Principal Steve Malkischer) have all been named semi-finalists.  These young women will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 7,500 Merit Scholarship awards to be offered next spring. Congratulations on a job well done!

Students Beautify Todd

High school freshman Nicole Spero wanted to help students at Todd Middle School start the year on an upbeat note, so for her Girl Scouts Silver Award Project, “The Art of Positivity,” she got together with friends Nadine Deeb, Sophia Maslyn, Emilee Miller, and Alexianne Pittman to paint motivational messages on the school’s restroom stalls.  Thank you to Michaels and Home Depot for their donations.

Creative Professionals at Work

.

High school students learned about what goes on behind in the scenes in the world of entertainment, media, arts, and technology last Tuesday when they hopped aboard Full Sail University’s Mobile Real World Educational Experience, a fully equipped semi-truck featuring interactive music, video, gaming, and animation tools. Working independently and in groups, the students experimented with an interactive 3D design station equipped with  iPad Pros and played games through a retro arcade console setup. They also adjusted concert footage to develop a look for TV using live content production technology and tried their hands at mixing music using a touch-screen console and  professional recording software. Art teachers Roberto Romani and Janet Stong were on hand to guide the students through the stations. "Everything you love and think is useful had some creative people behind it," said Mr. Romani.
