School Social Work

School social work services are provided by specially trained social workers who have a masters degree in social work and have met certification requirements in New York State. The role of the social worker is to help all students reach their full potential by providing direct services such as individual and group and counseling, and my making referrals to link students and families to community based services. These community based services could include mental health counseling, recreational programs, and drug and alcohol prevention and education programs. The school social worker works as part of a team to help identify students with special needs and to develop individualized education programs for students with disabilities.
