Board Candidate Michele Williams Michele Williams is running for the one board seat vacancy. This is a five-year seat beginning July 1, 2022, and ending June 30, 2027. Mrs. Williams has lived in the district for 35 years. With her husband, Phil, a dentist, she has four children: Spencer (10), Sebastian (9), Sawyer (7), and Silas (3). In addition, Mrs. Williams is an alumnus of the district. “My family has been part of the Spackenkill community for over 60 years,” said Mrs. Williams. “My passion is to see our community thrive and for our students and staff to have committed leadership with vision and integrity.

Among Mrs. Williams’s community activities are her service as the Past Elementary PTA President and as Past Elementary PTA Secretary. She is the Spackenkill PTA Golf Outing Chair and has served on numerous fundraising committees within Spackenkill over the years, in addition to the Nassau Safety Committee, Superintendent Search and Teacher Search Committees, as well as the Return to School Committee. She was also on the Kildonan School Board.

A business owner and community advocate, Mrs. Williams is a member of the First Friday Poughkeepsie Board and is a former Board member of the Beacon Chamber of Commerce. In addition, she is the founder and co-chair of the Spackenkill Flag Football League.

“Being a parent, alumnus, and volunteer puts me in a unique position that allows me to be visible and gain insight from community members, parents, and staff,” said Mrs. Williams.

Asked about challenges facing the district, Mrs. Williams said, “We need to focus on the long-term effects of the pandemic on the children and come up with strategies to help students overcome this.” She would also focus on “maintaining transparency, especially in policy.”
