Musician to Perform at National Concert

Spackenkill High School junior Annika Hill will perform at the Yamaha 2016 National Junior Original Concert on July 17 at the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts in Cerritos, California. Annika will present "Fly Away (Let Your Imagination Fly)," her original composition for piano, children’s choir, winds, strings, brass, and percussion. She is one of only 12 music students selected to perform an original musical composition at the event, whose participants range in age from eight to 16. Congratulations to Annika!

Kabongo Barry Makes History

Congratulations to Spackenkill High School junior Kabongo Barry, who competed at the New York State Public High School Track and Field Championship in Syracuse on June 10.  Kabongo won the state public school title in the 200-meter dash, setting a new school record with a time of 21.79. He finished second in the 100-meter dash.  In the Federation final he finished sixth in both the 200-meter and 100-meter events.
He is the first Spackenkill male track athlete to win a state title.

Remembrance Walk on June 10

On Friday, June 10 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, the Spackenkill Leo Club will host the 8th annual Spackenkill Remembrance Walk to recognize and celebrate the lives of all of those who have passed away.  This well-attended event begins at dusk with a community-building walk around the track, which will be illuminated by lanterns. Additionally, sky lanterns will be launched by Leo Club members as beacons of remembrance.  All ages are welcome and the event is free..

Vincent Li places among the top 50 students in the U.S. Chemistry Olympiad

Spackenkill students recently competed in the U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad sponsored by the American Chemical Society.  After competing at the local level regional competition, Vincent Li, Eileen Gao, and Peter Staten (alternate) qualified to compete in the national competition held at Mount Saint Mary College.  Vincent Li earned High Honor status at the national competition, placing among the top 50 students in the United States.

BOCES CTI Valedictorian for Class of 2016

Brian Griffing has been named BOCES CTI Valedictorian for Class of 2016.  He will attend Dutchess Community College in the fall, where he will study to earn an associate’s degree in business. Afterward, he plans to attend culinary school and major in culinary arts, with the intention of one day becoming chef/owner of a restaurant. We wish him great success on his academic and career path!
