September 2018 Probationary Tenure open positions:

Library Media Specialist - secondary level.

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in Library Media Specialist K-12 required.
  2. Library Media Specialist certification requires a Master’s degree prior to licensing.
  3. Demonstrable effective teaching skills.
  4. Evidence of excellent background and knowledge.
  5. Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will have experience and/or training in the setup and maintenance of an exemplary library media academic program and space.  The candidate should have extensive experience with the use and distribution of electronic resources and applications.  In addition, they should have the knowledge and/or experience needed to initiate and maintain a state-of-the-art multipurpose, multifunction presence in both the physical and virtual library spaces for a one-to-one Chromebook school.

Precedence may be given to those applicants who will be eligible to serve as an adjunct professor at SUNY Albany for the Science Research in the High School program.  Expertise and/or interest in the physical, life, psychological/behavioral, and/or environmental sciences is preferred.

 

Elementary Teacher

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in Elementary K-6 required.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Demonstrable effective teaching skills.
  4. Evidence of excellent background and knowledge.
  5. Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.

Social Worker

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in School Social Worker required.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist student support teams and committees on education at assigned schools
  • Reassess student records to determine past impediments and/or interventions
  • Evaluate information obtained from record reviews and inquiries to ascertain environmental effects and befitting resource needs
  • Merge information gained into a verbal presentation and/or written report
  • Conduct interview involving students and parents/guardians to deliberate on issues pertaining to non-attendance and establish a course of action
  • Support the school in adhering to school board regulations on truancy and absenteeism
  • Regular attendance of student support team meetings
  • Develop and accomplish specialist developmental training for parents and educational personnel
  • Serve as connection between the school and families to foster positive cooperative processes in educational planning for students by ensuring engagement of parent/guardian in school activities
  • Experience assisting social/emotional health via individual & group counseling
  • Complete functional behavior evaluation reports on identified students
  • Preferred experience working with secondary students.

Academic Intervention Services Teacher (AIS)

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in Elementary educ and/or reading preferred.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Demonstrable effective teaching skills.
  4. Evidence of excellent background and knowledge.
  5. Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • Trained in multi-sensory reading instruction.
  • Prior experience with Lucy Calkins Units of Study and/or writing workshop model.

Math Teacher – Secondary Level

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in Math 7-12.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize a wide range of assessment tools and strategies to regularly measure student progress against identified goals, e.g. quizzes, rubrics, written work and performance
  • Collaborate with peers on curriculum development and lesson planning to maximize opportunities for connecting curricula and concepts
  • Have a complete understanding of curricular goals and objectives
  • Observe, assess, record and research instructional strategies that foster mastery of learning for students at all levels of academic achievement, including students with disabilities.
  • Utilize a wide range of instructional strategies to meet students’ different learning styles and needs.
  • Develop student individual and group learning goals based on data analysis, and other performance assessment indicators.
  • Create and maintain conditions within the classroom that lead to accomplishment of the school mission.
  • Maintain an atmosphere of high expectations for students, in order to promote effective learning by explicitly identifying mastery goals.
  • Participate in professional development and coordinate lesson topics with other teachers in order to create a coherent curricular design.
  • Engage in self-reflection and reflection on academic practices in order to succeed in achieving academic goals
  • Experience or familiarity with Google Classroom and associated applications preferred
  • Experience with teaching HS Algebra preferred   
  • Preferred middle school experience.

School Psychologist – Secondary Level

  1. New York State Education Department Certification as a School Psychologist.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Demonstrable effective teaching skills.
  4. Evidence of excellent background and knowledge.
  5. Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.

Computer Science Teacher – Secondary Level

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in math and/or Educational Technology Specialist.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Demonstrable effective teaching skills.
  4. Evidence of excellent background and knowledge.
  5. Outstanding preparation and/or experience may be substituted for some of the above qualifications.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Experience in teaching the following technology curricular preferred:
  • Block-based programming, text-based programming and Cybersecurity
  • Industry-standard tools and languages including Python, XML, Android Studio, and device emulators.
  • Ability to prepare students for the AP CSP assessment.

French & Spanish Teachers – Secondary Level

  1. New York State Education Department Certification in French and/or Spanish. Dual certification preferred.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Demonstrable effective teaching skills.

Part-time open position:

Physical Education Teacher  .6 – Middle School Level

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement lesson plans for teaching physical fitness techniques, sports playing, and living a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Motivate students during exercises to help them develop athletic skills and enjoy exercising
  • Teach the rules behind playing several different sports, as well proper techniques for running, stretching, and other activities
  • Modify existing instructional plans as necessary to accommodate individual student’s special needs
  • Administer PE-related assessments, collect, and analyze data gathered on each student
  • Build relationships with students’ families through regular communication about students’ progress and provides ways in which families can support their children’s health and motivation
  • Work closely with department members to improve PE/Health instruction district-wide   
  • Experience or familiarity with Google Classroom and associated applications preferred
  • Preferred middle school experience
