Parents as Reading Partners

Reading: The Greatest Show on Earth!

This year's Parents As Reading Partners (P.A.R.P.) program will begin on Thursday, January 12, 2012.  P.A.R.P. is a nationwide P.T.A. initiative that encourages reading.  During this month-long program, the number of days children read to partners and partners read to children, for at least 15 minutes per day, is recorded in a booklet.

Packets will go home on Thursday, January 12th.  Each week we will be sending home optional activity packets.  The awards assembly will be on Thursday, February 16th.

Thank you to Mrs. McLaughlin, Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Scianna for chairing this year's P.A.R.P. committee.  For more information, please contact Ms. Cunningham in the Nassau Elementary School Library.

Last year's Parents As Reading Partners (P.A.R.P.) program ran from January 19, 2011 - February 24, 2011.   The theme was "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!".  Special thanks to the P.A.R.P. committee of Mrs. Speranza, Mrs. Rokitowski, Mrs. Van Ness, Mrs. Sherilla and Ms. Cunningham.  Keep reading!

Our program included a visit by author, Charles R. Smith Jr.  He combines his love of sports, poetry and writing to create books for children of all ages.  He shared his writing process with students at our school.
