This week in the Spackenkill High School cafeteria, a student reported finding an insect in a cup of fruit that was originally packaged in a can. Staff immediately removed the product from the serving line and  provided a different fruit choice. The vendor was notified and is required to contact the manufacturer. All unused product will be returned to the vendor. This is the first such occurrence with this long-standing vendor, however, we will not purchase the product again until we are assured that this is an isolated incident within the county. As a courtesy, we have notified neighboring school districts in the event that they are using the same product. The Office of Government Services has notified us that the peanut butter product we received from them is safe to use. This in response to FDA's recall on peanut butter and other nut butter products.

The FDA has issued a recall on peanut butter and other nut butter products. For further information, follow this link. The Spackenkill School Lunch Department has not received any of the affected product. However,we have been instructed to isolate what we have received until further direction from the USDA. In the interim, we will be purchasing peanut butter for future use.
